An attempted at dog-rescue from AOK team member, Faith:I was driving over to my fiance’s parents’ house to pick up my dogs after their puppy play-date on Friday (because I’m yuppy like that) and I saw a floppy little Lhaso Apso cruising down the street sans owner or leash. (For those unfamiliar with the breed, I’ve attached a picture. These dogs have been bred over the years to not be able to see past their own noses.)I would normally keep driving in order to stick to my schedule, and I did at first–I drove right past the little guy. But then thought about how he was on a busy road and little dogs like that have a tendency to roam, so if he didn’t get flattened by a car, he was equally likely to wander into the hills where he’d be snatched up by an owl or something. So I turned around and drove back and found him trotting along the side of the road. I pulled over, got out of my car, and started calling him in an obnoxious, high-pitched puppy voice. Clearly sensing the threat I posed to his break for freedom…he turned and ran. I started going after him on foot, but that made him book it, so I got in my car and drove behind him. He started hauling ass and really running as fast as his fluffy little legs could go, and at some point during our slow speed car chase, I realized I was terrifying this dog, which is not particularly kind…He ended up running into a neighbor’s yard and disappearing behind the house… Not sure if it was HIS house, though…So I’m not sure if this was a legitimate act of kindness, a failed act of kindness, or a missed opportunity…
